Services

At the J. Jireh Dental Clinic, we offer a variety of dental services to meet your needs and we use the latest in high-tech dentistry equipment in order to ensure a comfortable experience for our patients.

Among the procedures we offer:

  • Cleaning and Exams--Although daily brushing and flossing at home is the most important part of your dental health program, a thorough, professional cleaning at your dentist's office is one of the cornerstones of good dental health.  We recommend that our patients have their teeth professionally cleaned every six months.  During the cleaning, your dental hygienist will remove the tarter that has built up on your teeth (something that doesn't come off with regular brushing), floss, and polish your teeth.  In addition, Dr Borbon will conduct a routine exam to check for tooth decay, infections, and periodontal disease.  This simple process, when followed on a bi-annual basis, helps to prevent minor dental problems from turning into a major crisis.

  • Fillings--Fillings are a very common dental procedure.  Due to decay, a tooth becomes painful and a filling must be performed.  Simply stated, the decay is drilled out of the tooth and an alloy (metal) or composite material is used to fill the space that remains.  Fillings are usually completed in one office visit and, depending on the depth of the decay, can take as little as 20 minutes to complete.  Many people dislike the sound of the drill when they get a filling.  Dr. Borbon has a new, high-tech, air abrasion drill that does away with both the sound and the necessity for anesthetic when getting a filling.  Ask Dr. Borbon if the air-abrasion drill will work for your next filling.

  • Extractions--Extractions are a last resort and only performed if the tooth can not be saved.  Of course Dr. Borbon makes every effort to save your own natural teeth, however if this is not practical, an extraction will be performed.  An extraction is a simple procedure which takes only one office visit to complete.  During this procedure, Dr. Borbon will make every effort to ensure the comfort of the patient whether they be children or adults.  After the extraction, thorough after care instructions will be given to ensure a speedy healing.  Wisdom teeth extractions will be referred to a qualified oral surgeon.

  • Sealants--Years ago, cavities were a fact of life.  We would brush our teeth and visit the dentist but more often than not, most of us would reach adulthood with one or more fillings in our teeth.  These days, children can face an almost cavity-free future just by having sealants placed on their teeth.  Sealants are a plastic material that the dentist uses to "seal out" plaque and decay in their molars and pre-molars.  This simple process is quick and painless.  Children can have sealants applied as soon as their back teeth erupt.  The sealant material is very durable and lasts for many years.  Of course, during routine exams, Dr. Borbon will check the condition of the sealants to ensure that they are still bonded correctly to the teeth.

  • Professional Whitening--Do you want the white, glistening smile that models have on TV?  Most people aren't born with pearly whites--they create them.  We offer both home and office whitening services.  This is a simple, painless process that bleaches dark, discolored or stained teeth and leaves you with a whiter, brighter smile.  In our office, Dr. Borbon can apply a chemical bleaching solution to your teeth; this procedure creates an immediately noticeable change in the color of your teeth.  With our high-tech office zoom light, this procedure only takes one hour and lightens your teeth six to eight shades!  As an alternative, Dr. Borbon can create a bleaching kit for you to use in the comfort of your own home.  This process is easy to follow but may take a longer period of time to achieve the same results as you would get at the office.  The effects of bleaching can last for several years with only occasional touch-ups.

  • Bridges--A bridge is used when you have one or two missing teeth in one area of your mouth.  A bridge connects permanently from your existing teeth and it holds a false tooth or teeth.  This is an option for patients who don't need full dentures but only need to fill in where a tooth is missing.

  • Dentures--How do your dentures feel today?  Are they comfortable?  Do they allow you to eat any kind of food you like?  Having dentures that are properly aligned and properly fitted can make a world of difference to our patients who have them.  Dentures that are loose, misaligned, or improperly fitted can cause mouth sores, embarrassment in social situations and difficulty eating.  Dr. Borbon specializes in creating dentures that give you not only a natural, beautiful smile, but that fit so well you won't even remember you are wearing them!  In addition to creating an entire set of dentures, Dr. Borbon is also able to "reline" dentures.  Over the years, the structure of our mouth changes; because of this, your previously well-fitting dentures may become loose or uncomfortable.  Dr. Borbon can reline the dentures with a plastic like material then remold them to fit your mouth thus allowing you to get more wear out of your dentures yet have the perfect fit you have always enjoyed.

  • Crowns--Crowns are used for a variety of reasons in dentistry.  Crowns can be used to cover root canals, protect weak teeth from fracturing, restore broken teeth, or to restore teeth when there isn't enough tooth remaining to provide support for large fillings.  Crowns can be made out of alloy metal (such as gold), porcelain, ceramic or composite resin.  The type of crown you receive is usually determined based on the location (for front teeth a white, porcelain crown is often used), the amount of wear the crown will receive (alloy is much more durable), and the position of the gum tissue.  The process of having a crown placed takes many steps.  Dr. Borbon will first prepare the tooth by shaping it to fit the crown.  Then an impression will be taken so the finished crown will fit the space perfectly and feel just like your natural tooth.  Your impression is then sent to a dental lab to be formed to exacting specifications.  During this time you will have a temporary crown put in.  When your crown comes back from the lab it will be time for the final fitting and cementing.  Your crown should look and function just like your regular tooth.

  • Root Canals--Root canals are a necessary procedure when the nerve of the tooth is decayed.  Every effort is made to save the tooth, even if the root is no longer viable.  A root canal involves taking out the nerve of the tooth then placing posts, made of either metal or plastic, in its place.  The tooth is then covered with a crown.  This procedure usually takes a series of appointments to complete.

  • Cosmetic Veneers and Bonding--Cosmetic veneers and bonding are two ways to immediately create a beautiful, confident smile.  With veneers, a tooth-colored composite material is used to create a shell that covers the front of your teeth.  This material can fill gaps between teeth, cover chipped or worn teeth and can also cover badly stained, poorly shaped or crooked teeth.  The result is a beautiful, brand new smile.  Bonding is a similar process that involves using a composite resin that bonds to the entire tooth.  The resin is then contoured into the proper shape, hardened, smoothed out then polished.  Bonding is used to fill gaps, and fix broken, chipped or cracked teeth.  Both of these procedures were created to restore your natural, beautiful smile with a minimum of invasiveness.  These procedures can often be completed in one or two visits and can last for several years.

  • Dental Implants--In the past, dentures were the only option for people who, either from decay or accident, lost their permanent teeth.  Today implants are making a positive difference in many people's lives.  Implants get their name from the titanium posts that are implanted in a patient's jaw bone.  I know...that sounds terrible.  Actually, once the posts are implanted they become a part of your body that you don't even notice (much like people who have titanium pins or rods placed in their body for orthopedic reasons).  Once the implants have been inserted, the posts that protrude through your gums are fitted with composite "teeth".  These teeth are permanently affixed to the posts and, even though they aren't your "real" teeth, they look and feel natural.  You can eat anything you like and best of all, unlike dentures, there is nothing you need to do to take care of them other than routine brushing.  Many people are turning to implants because of their ease of use.  Implants, unlike dentures, don't become loose, fall out, cause mouth sores or need special cleaning.  They become a permanent part of you, much like your original teeth.
